Royal Raymond Rife

inventor of powerful healing devices that conflicted with the established theories of the time.

Blake's Portait of God Royal Raymond Rife (1888 - 1971) was a prolific inventor with great knowledge of many fields. He is most remembered today for two devices involving the properties of resonance. His microscope allowed him to see more deeply into the world of microbes. He then claimed that by focusing electromagnetic waves of very specific frequencies he could destroy microbes and thereby aid in curing disease.

Early Inventions

Rife first worked with optics when he was employed by Carl Zeiss Optical, a leading lens manufacturer. While in college he developed photomicrographs for the "Atlas of Parasites" then being produced by the University of Heidelberg (Germany). He was presented an honorary Doctorate of Parasitology (Science) by the University in 1914 for this work. He also developed innovations in optics, electronics, radiochemistry, biochemistry, ballistics, and aviation. In 1915 Rife developed an X-ray quality control system for Timken Roller Bearings where he was then employed. The Timken family provided funding for much of his later research. Rife did not have a medical doctorate, a factor in the later criticism of his work.

Rife's Microscopes

Rife turned his attention to microscope development, in particular devices using the heterodyning properties of ultra-violet light to extend their range beyond the limits of conventional microscopes. The heterodyne principle can be explained by analogy with drumming.

If you placed two (very accurate) drummers in a room and asked one to play 100 beats per minute, and the other to play 101 beats per minute then once every minute both drummers would strike at the same instant, and the sound would be twice as loud. Optical microscopes cannot register objects smaller than the wavelength of the light they use. By using much smaller wave length ultra-violet light from two or more sources with slightly differing wavelengths it is possible to create a "beat" of lower wavelength visible light that carries the characteristics of the object being viewed.

Rife built at least five progressively more advanced designs of microscopes achieving a claimed resolution of 31,000 diameters and a magnification of 60,000 diameters. The machines were so complex and precise that it often took days of work to focus them. A major advantage was that his devices allowed the subjects to be observed while living, an impossibility with electron microscopes.

Healing Diseases: The Beam Ray

Rife was aware that resonance could build up energy in an object, for example the well known ability of trained singers to hold a specific pitch and shatter glass. He turned his research toward discovering the "Mortal Oscillatory Rate" of the viruses and pathogens he observed in his microscope. He was able to create resonance so intense that it disintegrated portions of bacteria and viruses, either killing them or preventing their reproduction. He used this treatment successfully, at one point 16 supposed hopeless cancer (and perhaps tuberculosis) patients were treated with Rife's device for 70 days in a University of Southern California (USC) sponsored study. A panel of MDs pronounced 14 to be cured. Treatment was adjusted for the other two causing them also to become healthy.

Attack of the AMA

Morris Fishbein, editor of the Journal of the American Medical Association, was a crusader for conventional "cut and drug" medicine. He began a series of attacks on Rife, attempting to buy his patent(s) and funding a lawsuit against the Beam Ray Corporation by a former partner.

About 1939 the AMA threatened all MDs using the Beam Ray equipment with revocation of their licenses to practice medicine. This all but shut down Rife's work and he retreated into alcohol and depression. Much of his equipment and notes have been lost.

Rife's Theories Today

There have been a number of efforts to duplicate Rife's results in recent years. In the mid 1970's Barry Lynes published a book: "The Cancer Cure That Worked!" detailing some of these efforts. There are a number of devices being sold today that claim to be based on Rife's work. While some are offered in good will, some likely are not.

The controversy over Rife's discoveries continues. At this writing Wikipedia.org is offering a short, negatively biased view of Rife. We have reprinted an earlier, more comprehensive version, with numerous links and footnotes here:
