René Schwaller de Lubicz
A vast and unexpected understanding of ancient Egypt
and of what it truly means to be Human.
René A. Schwaller de Lubicz (Aor) (1887 - 1961) was one of the foremost alchemists of the twentieth century. He brought that knowledge to his study of Ancient Egyptian monuments, in particular the Temple at Luxor.
Schwaller's work points to Egyptian understanding of a highly evolved numerological and geometrical sacred science. The Egyptians sought resonance in all aspects of their world. All of Egyptian art and architecture show this use of number and ratio to express deeper meaning, ultimately to reflect an all-pervasive cosmic harmony.
The ultimate harmony is the "Primordial Scission" - the initial division of the unformed One consciousness into the many - what we call the birth of the Universe. The ratio of this division is Phi - the Golden Section ("φ"). To the Egyptians, and to Schwaller, the Golden Section is the central law of creation.
The further Schwaller progressed with his studies of the Egyptians, the more he realized that these people at the dawn of known, recorded history possessed a mathematical wisdom far superior to that of later cultures. This line of reasoning led him to the conclusion that there must have been a previous, highly advanced civilization: Atlantis.
Intelligence of the Heart
Rene Schwaller de Lubicz believed the aim of evolution was the creation of "Conscious Man". Much as native tribes have individuals who reflect totems of different aspects of Nature, the Neters of ancient Egypt were each reflected in man.
Science separates the observer from the observed. Our entire experience is of division, naming things so as not to confuse them. The Egyptians worked from a different viewpoint, searching for connections and parallels. The Hieroglyphic script is based on likenesses, a single sign meaning both an animal (for example), it's distinctive color, and the abstract idea the animal evokes.
Our science has concluded that every atom is ultimately dependent on every other, yet we persist in the intellectual fiction that we can separate one from another both in our experiments and in our daily lives. Schwaller would have us put aside our dividing mind and experience life directly, by intuition, the no-mind of countless spiritual teachers.
